Central City Water News

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your continued support. We like most other businesses at this time have felt the effects of the current Economic Recession and as such have decided to put together some package specials to assist our customers with their water needs at this time at some reduced rates. We are also pleased to announce we have added some NEW SERVICES to our list. We hope our customers are as excited about these new services as we are! We have spent countless hours researching, training and preparing for this new launch and are available immediately to assist your requirements!

Did you know: Statistics Canada reports in the latest survey conducted only 33% of households on non-municipal (wells or cisterns) water supplies have tested their water.

Scientists Without Borders reports that in Canada 45% of waterborne outbreaks involve non-municipal (wells or cisterns) systems.

In recent years Environment Canada and Health Canada have taken a noticeable interest in water and private water (or non-municipal) systems. There are countless Boil Water Bans on for Municipal Drinking Water, however private Cisterns and Wells have been left up to home and business owners to monitor; with until recently little information provided to the system owners as to how to maintain their water systems. Recommendations from Health Canada state a private Cisterns and wells should have water samples taken at least once per year and private Cisterns and Wells should be shocked and have tanks cleaned at least once per year. At Central City Water our customers safety is our FIRST concern! As such our newest services are tailored to specifically ensure optimum water quality for our Customers. NEW SERVICES: Chemical and Bacteriological Water Sampling, Cistern and Well Shock Chlorination and of course we are continuing to provide Cistern and Tank Cleaning Service as well as our Water Delivery Services.

At Central City Water we ensure that the water delivered to our customers is the best quality possible and diligently work with The Calgary Regional Health Authority to comply with guidelines and policies to ensure our products are safe for our customers needs. We have discovered through this working relationship, how time consuming and detailed the Water Sampling process is! We have also discovered that, although the Health Region strongly recommends regular Water Sampling to be done for private residences and Businesses on Cistern and Well type water systems. MOST system owners are NOT aware of this recommendation and the many health reasons behind it. Most individuals do not know how to go about taking water samples and which type of samples should be taken, or how often to sample. The sampling process has specific time deadlines and procedures to follow which can be a very time consuming and frustrating process! Let US do the sampling for you!

Most consumers assume that since they are receiving City Water deliveries their water supply is clean. This is NOT necessarily the case! There are many factors that contribute to water contamination even in sealed or closed Cistern and tank systems, which the average home or business owner is unaware of. I could provide an entire page of possible and frequent contaminants, here are just a few contaminants we encounter on a regular basis: sunlight and algae growth, rust and mineral deposits, (which can be caused by many things such as metal parts or equipment in or around Cisterns and Tanks, debris that have fallen into tanks or has been left by tank constructors etc.) dirt and other outdoor materials, decaying animals such as cats, frogs, worms and salamanders (to name just a few) whom are attracted to the smell of water, loose or old liners or bladders in tanks and cisterns, old types of seals or sealing/ repair materials and the list goes on!

The Health Region recommends Bacteriological Water Samples be taken at LEAST once per year and more frequently if the water is used for family consumption, is expecting a new baby, or has known contaminants. Chemical samples are to be taken from private Water Wells at LEAST once every five years and more frequently if water is being used for family consumption, is expecting a new baby, or has just been drilled or completed.€ All samples taken are sent through the Calgary Regional Health Authority Laboratories for analysis, and a detailed report will be provided to the customer with results. If a result is found to be unsafe we have our NEW SERVICE of Cistern and Well Shocking which we can complete for our customers and of course our Cistern Cleaning Service is also recommended. Once the Shocking and Cleaning is complete we will provide another water sample free of charge to the Health Authority to ensure water is once again at safe levels. Regardless of water results the Regional Health Authorities recommend Well and Cistern Shocking and Cleaning be done at least once per year.

Individual costs for our new services are $150.00 plus GST for Bacteriological or Chemical Sampling. If you would like both samples to be taken there is an additional charge of $50.00 as samples are sent to different locations for analysis.

Cistern and Well Shocking is a VERY in depth process and Health Canada quotes requires knowledge of water wells and a comfort level working with required chemicals and is recommended to only be completed by a company such as ours, ( with specific knowledge and training about proper procedures) a licensed water well contractor or licensed plumber. If the shocking process is performed incorrectly it can cause large amounts of damage to the system and equipment and may not properly remove bacteria or other contaminants from the system. Health Canada recommends Cistern and Well Shocking should be done at least once per year and has separate procedures for E. coli and Fecal Coliform (which can be found in Cisterns and Wells) or Iron and Sulfur bacteria (which are only found in Wells.) Our Cistern and Well Shocking Service is $300.00 plus GST.

Cistern and Tank Cleaning charges vary based on size of tanks; material tank is made of, (fiberglass or cement) amount of tanks to be cleaned and dirtiness of tanks. Prices start at $600.00 plus GST. To provide accurate quotes for cleaning an on-site examination must be done and is free of charge.

To assist our customers with ensuring recommended testing, shocking and cleaning of their systems is done on a regular basis, we are offering pre booking and scheduling of these services. If you have any questions, would like more information or would like to book with us please call (403) 235-0042. We look forward to booking with you in the near future! .
